How to Build Your Brand and Become an Instagram Influencer

Instagram Branding

Instagram is full of models and influencers who make good money taking and uploading photos and videos. Have you ever scrolled through your Instagram feed and thought, “I could do that too if only I knew how”? It’s not as complicated as you might think it is, and you don’t even need to be a traditional model type to be successful at it. Here are some tips on how to get started as an Instagram influencer.

Becoming an Influencer

Being an influencer on Instagram is really just about the influence you have on your followers, or other people who use the platform, who enjoy consuming the content and are interested in the products or messages you’re pushing out there. Generally, there are two kinds of influencers (you could break this down further, but for the sake of simplicity, let’s just stick with the two categories): micro and macro. Micro-influencers are the smaller players, with anywhere from 1,000 to under one million followers on the social media platform. Their fan bases are usually quite engaging and hold a lot of sway when it comes to pushing products and brands. Macro influencers are anyone with over a million followers, and they have major social clout and sway with their fans.

You can become a micro-influencer fairly easily, as long as you dedicate time and effort to being consistent and active on the platform. Micro-influencers make money via advertisers and brand partners who want to get their product or brand name out to as many people as possible but in a more organic way. They can partner with you and sponsor some posts for, on average, anywhere between $50 per post up to $25,000 per post, depending on the number of followers, the engagement rate you have, and what niche you’re in. You could also get perks like free merchandise or free trips.

Pick your niche

Choose a niche you’re passionate about and that suits your personality, so your profile and posts sound natural, and you look excited to be talking about what you’re sharing. If your passion is fitness, start a fitness account, or if you’re really knowledgeable on indoor gardening, choose that for your niche. Faking it won’t get you anywhere, so be as authentic as you can.

Create a killer profile

Your profile and your account is your brand, so you have to decide how you want to represent yourself and try and have it resonate with your niche audience. Your bio should immediately attract people’s attention and entice them to stick around and follow you, or at least scroll through your content.

Keep in mind, in today’s digital world, online fraud is a serious issue, and you should be diligent in protecting the brand you build on Instagram. Post regularly and share your story

Curate and capture your photos, so they are Instagram-worthy, and post often. It’s a good idea to have a schedule, so your followers know when you expect content from you. Your captions should align with your branding as well, so carefully consider how you craft them when posting. Followers want to connect with your brand somehow, so don’t be afraid to truly show your colors and share what you’re all about. Include relevant hashtags, and once you have enough pull, create your own unique, branded hashtag.
